2012 Honda Insight Hybrid
Family Ties
It's from the future
Family Ties
The 2012 Insight bears a striking family resemblance to the highly progressive FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle. The front of the Insight is strong and lean with eye-catching projector-beam headlights. The taller rear helps this 5-door hybrid slip easily through the air, and unique LED brake lights complete the look.
Space, Man
The Insight was designed with a low center of gravity and a
5-passenger cabin. Five-door access helps meet the needs of an active
lifestyle. New for 2012, the Insight features a revised and more
spacious interior. The use of smaller internal components allows for
more cabin and cargo space, making the Insight family-friendly and
versatile. And the Insight was designed and built from the ground up to
be what it is: a hybrid.
Hybrid Heart
The centerpiece of the Honda Insight is the latest Integrated Motor Assist IMA®
system. This next-generation hybrid system is exactly the type of
innovation you'd expect from the first company to bring a hybrid to the
U.S. The Insight features a highly efficient, 1.3-liter, 8-valve, i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine and DC-brushless electric motor, and it's equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Efficiency Booster
The unique Eco Assist™ system enables increased efficiency for improved performance through two elements. An ECON button[1]
controls various functions of the car, and a feedback system lets you
monitor your driving performance. Eco Scoring at the conclusion of the
drive provides drivers with a fun incentive to drive green.
The hybrid for all.
The advanced safety features you'd expect to find in a Honda are right there in the Insight, too.
ACE™ body structure
increases Insight occupant protection in frontal collisions, and makes
it more crash compatible with vehicles of differing ride heights.
The anti-lock braking system (ABS)
uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes and help prevent wheel
lockup, helping the driver retain steering control when braking hard.
And the Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the braking forces at each wheel according to how the car is dynamically loaded.
After all, the Insight might be known for its efficiency and affordability, but Honda engineers never lose their focus on safety.

Honda's Safety Philosophy
Honda is committed to providing safety for
everyone?that means crash protection not only for our own drivers and
passengers, but also for the occupants of other vehicles, and injury
mitigation for pedestrians. We are dedicated to identifying and
implementing advanced designs and features that help enhance the safety
of vehicles on the road.
Increase the hybrids, enhance the earth.
More Is More
Of course, the Insight was designed to achieve excellent
fuel economy[1]. But we also wanted to create a practical and affordable
vehicle, making hybrid technology accessible to more people. With an
EPA-estimated 44 hwy mpg[1], the AT-PZEV-rated[2] Insight ranks as one
of the more efficient cars on the road today. Honda engineers have
continued to refine its design, which is why the 2012 Insight boasts
higher fuel economy than ever.
Flower Power
EPA numbers are important, but the way you drive also
affects the fuel economy[1] you achieve. The Insight features a
remarkable system that helps you monitor your driving habits and
increase your fuel efficiency. It's called Eco Assist™[3]
and it gives you real-time feedback so you're aware of the most
efficient driving habits. It also includes a green ECON™ button[3] that,
when pressed, regulates certain vehicle functions to maximize fuel
efficiency.
There are two important facets to an efficient hybrid:
1) An efficient machine, and 2) an efficient driver. Working in unison. The Eco Assist feature makes you more aware of your driving style, and helps you get the most out of your Insight's hybrid feature.

Value
The Value Story
Since the very beginning, one of the
main goals at Honda has been to provide reliable, efficient
transportation. The 2012 Insight extends this objective into a new era
of hybrid technology that is both affordable and accessible to everyone.
To this end, the Insight was designed to be a 5-door hybrid with high
fuel economy[1], an accessible price and superior value.
One of the ways we've been able to make the Insight so affordable is by leveraging existing technologies we've developed in other models, such as the Civic and the Fit. These technologies include various engine and chassis components. Retaining value while lowering costs requires ingenious and imaginative engineering solutions. For that, we looked to our talented engineers?and the IMA® system.
With the introduction of the newly updated 2012 Insight, Honda is making hybrid technology available to more people than ever before with a new starting MSRP $18,350[. This trim maintains key features important to the extra conscientious value shopper.

Innovative, Insightful.
The engine is the heart, muscle and
brain of any modern automobile and, rightfully, it's the most valuable
part. To develop an affordable hybrid, Honda engineers took on the
formidable task of cutting the cost of the engine while retaining the
reliability and performance Honda is known for. The Insight's powerplant
is the latest incarnation of the innovative Integrated Motor Assist IMA®
engine design. The cost-reduction measures applied to that's lighter,
which is very important because low weight and exceptional fuel
efficiency go hand-in-hand.
Because Honda engineers focused their cost-cutting measures on the engine, they were able to develop the rest of the car in a fashion that still manages to retain value and keep the price tag low. Then again, that's what Honda has always been about?providing more value, efficiency and performance for every dollar.
